SHILLONG, Sept 28: Former Syiem of Hima Nongspung, Patrick Syiemiong, has demanded of KHADC Deputy CEM, PN Syiem, to remove the acting Syiem, Kyntiewborlang Syiemlieh, whilst accusing him of misusing his position by interfering in the affairs of various villages under the Hima.
“If PN Syiem is committed to protecting the customary practices of the Hima, he should remove the acting Syiem within three days,” asserted Syiemiong.
According to Syiemiong, the KHADC Deputy CEM had misused his authority in removing him without valid grounds.
He expressed confidence that the removal of the acting Syiem should not pose any issue, as there is evidence of Syiemlieh’s interference in village durbars.
It may be mentioned that Syiemiong was suspended following several complaints against him. Meanwhile, questioning the legitimacy of these complaints, he maintained that those who filed them were neither members of the Executive Dorbar nor from the Syiemiong clan.
“How can the council entertain the complaint without verifying whether they are members of the Executive Dorbar or from the clan?,” he said, criticising the Deputy CEM’s actions.
Syiemiong also raised concerns about the KHADC’s swift appointment of an acting Syiem after his removal, calling it “highly questionable”.
