HILLONG: As different localities of the city are clogged with traffic and narrow roads, the State Government has now taken the initiative to improve the Laitumkhrah junction to facilitate free passage of traffic.

Urban Affairs Minister and local MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh on Friday conducted an inspection of the junction and expressed her happiness with the progress of the work.

Speaking to reporters, she said that the junction expansion project would be over on January 14 so that it does not collide with the re-opening of schools.

The total estimated budget of the junction improvement project of Laitumkhrah is 62.20 lakhs and it includes a land compensation of Rs 25 lakhs besides an amount of Rs 23.25 lakhs has been earmarked for MeECL as they removed their electrical transformer from the junction to pave way for the project.

Apart from the Laitumhrah junction, Government has also plans to expand the abandoned park at Khyndailad and it will be expanded for embarkation and disembarkation of local taxis and the park will be dismantled next week. Lyngdoh stated that the Government would expand the Fire brigade junction too and land owners have agreed to part away their land for the junction expansion.

Lyngdoh stated that the Government also plans to expand the Motphran junction but there are some issues which need to be settled first.
