SHILLONG, Nov 15: The Congress has urged the state government to take bold decisions to transform Iewduh into a modern and hygienic marketplace.
It may be mentioned that the overall area of Iewduh also includes the Harijan Colony, the place which has been a witness to long-standing issues and discussions for which have been under way since five years.
Emphasising the need for “courage and conviction” from policymakers, Congress leader Ronnie V. Lyngdoh argued that tough decisions are essential to ensure peace and harmony in the state.
“If you want to please everyone, you will end up disappointing them,” he said, suggesting that the colony could be redeveloped into a modern market if residents are relocated to a suitable location.
Highlighting the historical significance of Iewduh as a traditional market, Lyngdoh said that the same was in urgent requirement of a makeover. “We need proper sanitation, sewerage system and the place should be hygienic,” he said, lamenting that Iewduh does not have basic infrastructure such as proper footpaths.
He urged the government to prioritise the beautification and modernisation of Iewduh, urging them to act decisively for the betterment of the area.
