Sainik board director calls on Governor

SHILLONG, Dec 7: Col. GK Rai (Retd.), Director of the Sainik Welfare Board, Meghalaya, called on Governor CH Vijayashankar at Raj Bhavan here, on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day.
During the meeting, Col. Rai ceremonially pinned the Armed Forces Flag on the Governor’s chest, symbolising the nation’s respect and gratitude toward the armed forces. The Governor acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the armed forces in safeguarding the nation’s security and integrity. As a token of appreciation for Col. Rai’s dedicated service and unwavering commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, Governor Vijayashankar personally contributed Rs 25,000.
He praised Armed Forces Flag Day as a meaningful occasion to express solidarity with soldiers, veterans, and their families and encouraged citizens to contribute generously to their welfare. Reaffirming his support for initiatives that honour and assist the armed forces community in Meghalaya and across the country, the Governor emphasized the importance of recognising their sacrifices.
Observed annually on December 7, Armed Forces Flag Day honours the martyrs and veterans while supporting their families, fostering a sense of national pride and unity.
