4th Shad Sajer of Raid Nonglyndoh observed

NONGPOH: In a bid to preserve the culture of the Bhoi people under the Raid Nonglyngdoh Elaka of Nongpoh Sirdarship, the Seng Pynneh Riti Raid Nonglyngdoh (SPRRN) on Tuesday organized the 4th ‘SHAD SAJER’ a sacred and traditional dance of the Raid, which was held at Mawjong village in a Sacred Forest of the Raid. The programme was jointly organized in association with the Indian Council for Cultural Relation, Shillong Branch.

The 4th Shad Sajer was attended by Chief Adviser to the State Government and local legislator of Nongpoh, DD Lapang, as the chief guest in the presence of Sordar of Nongpoh Elaka Sirdarship Wanphrang Syiem, Lyngdoh Raid Sensy Lyngdoh, Doloi Kur Henry Nongrum, Congress MDC candidate Augustine Wahlang, KSU North Khasi Hills president Ferdynald K Kharkamni, RBYF president Bipul Thangkhiew and other well known personalities and the local residents.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Lapang lauded the representative of the Seng Pynneh Riti of the Raid Nonglyndoh for their efforts in organizing the programme aimed at preserving the culture of the Bhoi people. He lamented that people have forgotten their own culture and tradition.

“This kind of function will make people aware of the need to preserve their culture and traditional dance,” Lapang said.

He also urged the representative and the people of the Raid to preserve the Sacred Forest, adding that if the people of the Raid could maintain their own culture and Sacred Forest it will prove beneficial not only for the future generation but also for the Raid Nonglyngdoh, in term of promoting tourism for upholding the economy of the people.

Highlights of the day included traditional dances performed by different group – Shad Shut Wait, Shad Puh Pynthor, Shad Dong Dong, Shad Kynduh Kynthei, Shad Mastieh Saw ngut, Pud Muin, Shad Jalun Diengsynrei and Tem Duitara.
