SHILLONG, Jan 7: The Shillong Cantonment Board has attributed the erratic water supply in the Cantonment area to a broken Public Health Engineering (PHE) department pipeline.
Shillong Cantonment Board CEO, Ayush Maurya, speaking on Tuesday, said, “The issue lies with the PHE pipeline, which is broken.”
He added that the board is coordinating with the PHE department to resolve the issue. “The PHE is working on repairs, and the problem will be resolved very soon,” the CEO assured.
For nearly a month, residents of the Cantonment area have been facing an acute shortage of water. Many reported that water supply has been disrupted for 20 to 25 days, with no supply in the evenings.
“In the mornings, we receive some water, but there’s nothing in the evenings,” one of the residents lamented.
Moreover, the persistent scarcity has led to frequent quarrels in several localities, especially in compounds shared by multiple households, as people struggle to access enough water to meet their needs.
