JOWAI, Feb 11: The Hynniewtrep Border Disputed Redressal Forum (HBDRF) met the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, Abhinav Kumar Singh, to discuss matters concerning peace and stability for the Khasi-Pnar people residing in Block-1 of Labang Nongphyllut, particularly during the upcoming MDC election.
HBDRF chairman Chandame Sungoh, addressing the media, stated that a complaint was filed on January 27 regarding potential issues that could arise during the election period.
He informed that officials from both districts will discuss the matter in a video conference scheduled for February 14 to ensure smooth election proceedings and prevent disturbances in the border areas.
Sungoh further highlighted that residents of Block-1, Labang Nongphyllut, are ready to be fully integrated into Meghalaya and have already begun participating in development activities. He also noted that these residents had previously boycotted elections for MLAs and MDCs in Assam.
Given the situation, the forum has urged the DC to coordinate with his counterpart from West Karbi Anglong district in Assam to ensure law enforcement, maintain peace, and prevent any disruptions as the Khasi-Pnar people take part in the upcoming district council election.
