TURA, Feb 12: In observance of Safer Internet Day, a global initiative aimed at promoting safe and responsible internet usage, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) conducted a nationwide awareness campaign under the ISEA Project in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
In Ampati, South West Garo Hills, the day was marked by a special awareness event organised in partnership with the District Administration at DRDA Conference Hall, Ampati. The initiative aimed to educate government officials, department staff, teachers, and students on cyber hygiene and online safety practices.
The event featured a keynote address by the Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Hema Nayak, who shared her insights on the opportunities and challenges of internet usage. She emphasised the importance of responsible online behaviour, cybercrime reporting mechanisms, and the role of individuals in fostering a safer digital environment.
An awareness presentation by the District Informatics Officer (DIO), NIC, highlighted key cyber threats and the importance of cyber hygiene. The session provided participants with practical knowledge on cyber threat mitigation, cybercrime reporting mechanisms, and available government resources, including the “Stay Safe Online” platform (www.staysafeonline.in).
This year’s Safer Internet Day theme, “Together for a Better Internet,” underscores the collective responsibility of individuals, institutions, and authorities in ensuring a safer digital space for all. The campaign reinforced the commitment of South West Garo Hills towards building a digitally aware and cyber-secure community.
