SHILLONG, March 7: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit has reported an incident involving a woman from East Jaintia Hills who escaped from an attempted human trafficking situation in the national capital.
The woman, aged 35, had come to Delhi after being promised a job as a maid. However, upon arrival, she was picked up by an unknown person who claimed to take her to her workplace. She soon realized that he was attempting to sell her off, but managed to escape.
KSU Delhi Unit president Marbiang Khongwir and organising secretary Julian Thabah, along with the Special Unit for North East Region (SPUNER) of Delhi Police, assisted her in filing a report at the local police station.
The Union lauded the efforts of D Dkhar from Raliang, SPUNER, and the Delhi Police for their swift response. They also thanked Jowai MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla for providing financial assistance to facilitate her return journey to Meghalaya.
The KSU urged citizens to remain vigilant when seeking employment opportunities outside Meghalaya and to inform the union before accepting any job offers from agents.
