SHILLONG: Police have identified 66 habitual offenders to prevent them from creating any trouble in the run up to the District Council elections slated for February 24.
The East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang told reporters on Thursday that the police secured an order from the Court which makes it binding on the part of the 66 accused persons to abstain from making any trouble. Kharkrang said that more names will be sent to the court.
Moreover, after the police wrote to the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner to ensure that licensed arms are deposited in time, as many as 395 owners deposited their arms with the district administration.
The SP said that raid against the sale of illicit liquor will continue. The police also had a meeting with the magistrates on Thursday to discuss the deployment of forces and also to ensure a free and fair election.
