SC judge suggests balancing technological integration with transparency, accessibility

SHILLONG, April 19: Supreme Court judge, Justice Surya Kant, on Saturday pointed out the need for balancing technological integration in judicial processes with transparency and accessibility.
Justice Kant was delivering an address on ‘Optimizing Court Appearance: Harmonizing Physical, Virtual and Hybrid Mode with Live Streaming Restrictions’ while attending a one-day programme organised by the High Court of Meghalaya here.
Organised at the High Court Auditorium, the event, thematised on ‘Judiciary and the Media, Local and Customary Laws under the Sixth Schedule in Meghalaya’, brought together legal luminaries to hold deliberations.
According to a statement here, the event was also attended by former Lokpal and former Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, as the guest of honour.
Deliberations during the session highlighted the nuanced relationship between the judiciary and the media, while also shedding light on the relevance and implementation of local and customary laws under the Sixth Schedule in Meghalaya.
Others who were part of the programme include Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, IP Mukerji, Telangana High Court judge, Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, and High Court of Meghalaya judges, Justice HS Thangkhiew and Justice W. Diengdoh.
