TURA/MAWKYRWAT, May 9: Amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, night curfew has been imposed in the border districts of South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, and South West Khasi Hills, in an effort to ensure security of residents across the region and the country.
Orders issued by the various district authorities stated that there was a fear of cross border movement of unwanted elements, including people, members of proscribed militant groups, smugglers as well as other illegal activities that the districts could be prone to.
Night curfew has been imposed from 8 PM till 6 AM in areas within 200 metres from the Zero Line in South West Garo Hills, 500 metres from the Zero Line in South Garo Hills and up to 2 km from the Zero Line in South West Khasi Hills.
The night curfew will remain in force for a period of two months.
On Thursday, the respective district administrations of East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills had imposed night curfew in the border areas from 8 PM till 6 AM on a daily basis.
