SHILLONG, May 9: The State BJP has called for a detailed discussion among the MDA coalition partners regarding allegations of Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar funding the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
Referring to the State Congress demand for Dhar’s resignation, Cabinet Minister and BJP leader AL Hek stressed that allegations should be backed with evidence.
He also stated that an inquiry depends on the government but must be proven first.
The HNLC has claimed that Dhar provided financial support to the organisation during his tenure as a Congress leader but ceased funding after switching allegiance to the National People’s Party (NPP) in 2018.
The VPP has demanded an NIA probe and Dhar’s resignation.
The state government maintains that investigations cannot be based solely on allegations.
Dhar has yet to issue a public statement in response to the allegations.
