Agartala: To ensure elections to two Lok Sabha constituencies, the Centre has agreed to send 18 more companies central forces in the state, official sources confirmed here today.

In response to the state government’s requisition of 108 companies of central forces, the Centre has agreed to dispatch 35 companies of additional forces for the Parliamentary elections.

This has been decided as the state is scheduled to witness two phases polling- April 7 for West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency and April 12 for East Tripura Lok Sabha seat.

However, the latest communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed 18 more companies of central forces would be sent in Tripura to guard the polling booths as well guarding strong rooms and counting halls.

That means, the MHA has almost agreed on what the state government had proposed for additional forces.

With the 53 companies of additional central forces, the strength of security personnel for conducting the Parliamentary elections has been enhanced further.

“There will be no dearth of security personnel in the run up to the Lok Saha elections. In fact, foolproof security would be ensured during the elections”, said a senior police officer.

As per the intelligence inputs, there is no major security threat to the poll as the law and order situation has improved significantly across the state over the past few years.

According to him, the central forces would be started arriving here by March 20 to take the responsibility.
