BSF ADG reviews security along B’desh border in state

SHILLONG, June 1: Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), Eastern Command, Kolkata, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, undertook a four-day visit to the Meghalaya Frontier to review operational preparedness and security measures along the Indo-Bangladesh international border.
During his visit, the ADG inspected several Border Outposts (BOPs) located in the West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills districts.
He interacted with BSF personnel and acknowledged their dedication and commendable service despite the challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions.
Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier, OP Upadhyay, briefed the ADG on the prevailing border situation, recent anti-smuggling operations, deployment strategies, and coordination efforts with local authorities.
The ADG reviewed the measures taken to prevent illegal infiltration and exfiltration and lauded the force’s success in curbing cross-border activities.
While addressing the officers of the BSF Meghalaya Frontier, Aggarwal emphasised the importance of maintaining high morale, constant vigilance, and professionalism. He also underscored the critical role of civic action programs in building stronger ties with border communities.
In addition to operational reviews, the ADG held meetings with senior officials of the civil and police administration to enhance inter-agency coordination and ensure effective security management in the region.
Aggarwal also paid a courtesy call on the Governor, C.H. Vijayashankar, at Raj Bhavan, Shillong.
He briefed the Governor on the current security scenario along the Indo-Bangladesh border and the proactive steps taken by the BSF to safeguard national interests.
He further met with Chief Secretary DP Wahlang to discuss issues related to border management, BSF-civil administration cooperation, and the support extended by state agencies in BSF operations.
