SHILLONG, June 19: Aspiring BJP candidates aiming to contest the GHADC elections have begun groundwork in an effort to change the party’s fortunes in the state.
So far, the BJP has struggled to secure a significant number of seats in both MLA and MDC elections in Meghalaya. However, Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader AL Hek remains optimistic that the party will perform better in the upcoming GHADC elections scheduled for next year.
Hek expressed confidence, stating that several individuals have already begun preparations on the ground, and the party as a whole is actively gearing up, despite the polls being a year away.
Dismissing claims that the BJP has no presence in the GHADC, he pointed out that the party has had MDCs in the council in the past and continues to do so even now.
“This time, we want to strengthen our position and win more MDC seats,” Hek said, while acknowledging that electoral success depends on various factors.
The BJP recently reconstituted its office bearers as part of its strategy to bolster the party ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls.
