SHILLONG, Aug 2: PWD engineers have assured South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai that the construction of a link road in the Rilbong area of the city will be completed by January next year.
On Saturday, Shullai inspected the ongoing construction of the road, which will run from the main entrance of the Arts and Culture building at Rilbong to the community hall and Umshyrpi River, eventually connecting to the existing road near the Rhino Museum.
Speaking to media persons here, Shullai said the road would be of great benefit to residents of Laban and Kench’s Trace, as there are currently only two exit points in the area.
The road, which includes the construction of a girder bridge near the Rhino Museum, is being built at a cost of Rs 6.33 crore.
“One road culminates at Civil Hospital while the other culminates at Harrison Bridge. But with this link road, people will now have another option of connecting to the main road,” he said.
Shullai added that the road would help ease traffic congestion and could be especially useful for schoolchildren and patients who need direct access to the main highway.
Accompanying the legislator during the inspection were PWD engineers, officials from the Arts and Culture department and representatives of various Dorbar Shnongs.
