TURA, Aug 6: After four days of intensive search that involved personnel from the district police, the Fire and Emergency Services, the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) as well as locals, the body of Teseng M. Sangma was finally retrieved on Wednesday afternoon from the Ganol River on the outskirts of Tura.
Teseng was posted as a Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer in South West Garo Hills. He had gone on a picnic along with friends and family when he was swept away by  the strong current of the river on Sunday.
His body was found stuck between three huge rocks on the river near Intu Wari. Due to the rising water levels of the river and the hostile terrain, it required a herculean effort from all those involved in the operation to extract the body.
Additional SP, Priyanka W Sangma said an inquest was performed in the place of occurrence by a magistrate who was present there.
The district administration of SWGH expressed its condolences on the death of Teseng, calling him an affable officer who was good to all in the district.
“We express our sorrow at his tragic demise. He was a kind and amiable person and an efficient officer,” Deputy Commissioner, Hema Nayak, said in a condolence message.
The agriculture officer leaves behind his wife (who also works in the same department as an assistant director) and his two young sons.
