KABUL, Aug 10: Afghan security forces have seized a large cache of weapons and military equipment during multiple operations across the country, according to the Ministry of Interior Affairs.
In the latest operation, arms were discovered on the outskirts of Samkani and Ahmad Khil districts in eastern Paktia province. This follows a series of similar discoveries across Afghanistan in recent weeks.
On August 4, police in western Farah province found weapons, including an RPG, AK-47, grenades, and projectiles in a house in Khak-e-Safid district. Earlier, on July 27, a major cache was uncovered in southern Uruzgan province, where security personnel seized rifles, machine guns, rocket launchers, grenades, and substantial ammunition in Tirin Kot. Two individuals were arrested.
The Afghan interim government has intensified its crackdown on illegal weapons as part of broader efforts to stabilize the country, recovering thousands of arms over the past three and a half years. On July 24, police found nearly 200 firearms in Paktia, including Kalashnikovs, M16s, pistols, and rocket launchers. Officials reiterated that civilians are prohibited from possessing illegal arms.
In another operation, police recovered an anti-aircraft gun and additional weaponry in Samangan province. Authorities stress that these operations will continue to ensure peace and prevent the resurgence of armed violence. (IANS)
