Regional writers gather in Tura

TURA, Aug 27: The Regional Writers’ Meet 2025 of the A•chik Literature Society (ALS) in collaboration with the Department of Garo, NEHU, Tura Campus and Department of Garo, Don Bosco College, Tura was held recently at the Christian Girls’ Higher Secondary School premises where more than one hundred poems, short stories, articles and essays were presented by authors, young and old.
During the meet, more than one hundred poems, short stories, articles and essays were presented.
The meet saw enthusiastic participation from students of North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, University of Science & Technology, Baridua, Ri-Bhoi District, Don Bosco College, Tura, Don Bosco College Higher Secondary Section, Tura, Don Bosco School, Tura, Tura Government College, Durama College, Tura, Tura Christian College, Tura, Miriam Russel College, Tura, Mason –Phillips College, Tura, Redemption College, Tura, Mendipathar College, North Garo Hills, Loyola College, Williamnagar and Ampati Degree College, South-West Garo Hills.
Chairman of the inaugural function, Rev. Dr Wetterfield R Marak emphasised the paramount importance of Garo, the mother tongue, while stressing also on the necessity to learn other languages.
Prof Caroline R Marak, the president of the A∙chik Literature Society, encouraged the writers to write and create with dedication, in order that they too, like their honourable predecessors, will find their own voice.
A book titled Chasong Gitalni Criticism (New Criticism) on the latest literary criticism in A∙chik language by Viola Sonachi B Sangma, former Adviser, ICFAI University, Tura was also released during the meet.
