Colorado student shoots 2, then himself

DENVER, Sep 11: A student shot two of his peers at Evergreen High School in Denver, Colorado, before shooting himself and later dying. The shooting occurred around 12:30 pm, and law enforcement officers found the shooter within five minutes of arriving. Over 100 police officers from the surrounding area rushed to the school to help. The 1999 Columbine High school shooting killed 14 people, including a woman who died earlier this year due to complications from her injuries. The teens were initially listed in critical condition, but by early evening, one was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The high school, which has over 900 students, is largely surrounded by forest and is about a mile from the center of Evergreen, which has a population of 9,300 people. Eighteen students who fled the shooting took shelter at a home just down the road, after an initial group pounded on the door asking for help. A retired educator familiar with lockdown trainings took down the names of all the students and the names of the parents who later arrived to pick them up. (AP)
