SHILLONG, Oct 8: Governor CH Vijayashankar on Wednesday dedicated the prestigious Kaveri Prashasti Award, which was conferred upon him here, to Meghalaya, even as he revealed that it was the first award he had accepted in his 69 years.
In a solemn ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, the Governor was presented with the Kaveri Prashasti Award by Sri Sri Trinetra Mahanta Shivayogi Swamiji, the revered pontiff of Sri Durdandeshwara Mahanta Shivayogi Math, Mandya District, and Sri DMS Chandravana Ashrama, situated on the western banks of the River Kaveri in Srirangapatna, Karnataka.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N Marak and Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P Ahammed, along with senior government officials and invited guests.
The Kaveri Prashasti Award was presented in recognition of Governor Vijayashankar’s exceptional contributions to public service and leadership over the decades.
Expressing his gratitude, the Governor said, “The Kaveri Prashasti Award holds deep significance. Just as the River Kaveri nourishes life and symbolises purity, this award serves as a reminder for us to strive for goodness and service wherever possible.”
He also expressed heartfelt appreciation to Swamiji for the honour, praising his impactful work in education, healthcare, peacebuilding, and spiritual guidance. “This award is not mine alone; it belongs to the entire state of Meghalaya,” he said.
Meanwhile, the chief minister congratulated the Governor on the rare honour, and described the same as a reflection of his humility, dedication and lifelong service to the people.
Sangma also lauded Swamiji for his contributions to education, health, the environment and spiritual upliftment. “This recognition will inspire many, especially those in public life, to serve with sincerity and compassion. It encourages the youth to follow the path of service with integrity and dedication,” the chief minister said.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from the organisers, who expressed their appreciation to all attendees for their support in making the event a success.
