NONGSTOIN: The District Arts and Culture Society of West Khasi Hills District is organizing a fest titled “Nongkhnum Spring – Break Fest 2014” under the Year of the Youth, 2012- 2013 at Nongkhnum River Island in West Khasi Hills on May 2.
Such a fest at the famous river island is being conducted after five years. This time round, however, the fest is being conducted on a larger scale with greater participation. EAC S Warjiri, who is overseeing the conduction of the fest, said that the sole idea of the fest was to promote tourism and youth mobilization. He added that the fest also aimed at reminding the people that no matter how high they scaled, they should remember their roots.
Some of the attractions of the fest include bike rally and motocross, beach volleyball, flower show, baby fancy dress competition, (Mr and Miss) contest, ethnic food fest and many others.
The bike rally winner would be awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000. The winner of the Theibhabriew and Rangkynsai contest would be awarded with Rs 15,000, Runners up with Rs 10,000 and Second Runner Up with Rs 8000. The entry to the fest is free.
