TURA, Nov 9: The Catholic community of Tura celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi, also known as the Annual Eucharistic Procession, with great devotion and solemnity on Sunday. The event took place at the Sacred Heart Shrine, Tura, drawing thousands of faithful from across the Garo Hills to express their deep reverence for the Holy Eucharist—the central mystery of the Catholic faith.
The Holy Mass was solemnly celebrated by Most Rev. Bishop Andrew R. Marak, Bishop of Tura, together with Auxiliary Bishop CJ Jose, priests, religious sisters and a large congregation of lay faithful. Among those present was Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
Following the Holy Mass, the Eucharistic Procession was led by Auxiliary Bishop of Tura, CJ Jose, who carried the Blessed Host in the Monstrance. The procession began from the Sacred Heart Shrine and moved reverently through the designated route via KA Road, St. Xavier’s, Chandmary, and back to the Shrine. The faithful walked prayerfully behind the Blessed Sacrament, carried under a canopy, singing hymns of praise and adoration and offering prayers for peace, harmony and the well-being of all.
It may be mentioned that the Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for “Body of Christ”) is one of the most sacred celebrations in the Catholic Church, commemorating the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharistic Procession is a public manifestation of faith and love for Christ, carried in the form of the Blessed Sacrament through the streets, symbolising His presence among His people and the call to bring His light into the world.
This sacred observance also signifies unity, gratitude, and peace—uniting the faithful in a shared act of worship that transcends boundaries of age, community and background. It is a moment when the Church reaches out to the world, reminding all that Christ walks among His people and that faith is not confined within the walls of the Church but is a living presence in the community.
The Tura Catholic Coordination Committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to all civil authorities, local institutions and residents of Tura for their cooperation in facilitating the smooth and peaceful conduct of the procession. Their support ensured that the event unfolded in an atmosphere of reverence and harmony.
As the Blessed Sacrament was carried through the streets of Tura, thousands joined in prayer and reflection, renewing their commitment to live out the values of faith, love, and service.
The Annual Eucharistic Procession continues to stand as a powerful testimony to the enduring faith of the Catholic community in Garo Hills and its commitment to peace, unity and spiritual growth.
