Age no bar for Elite Cricketers

SHILLONG: Elite Cricketers won an above-45 years tennis ball cricket tournament, organised by New Age Welfare Society on the occasion of the latter’s centenary celebrations, in Jail Road on Sunday.

Twelve teams participated in the nine-day tournament in two categories – 45+ and open.

Elite Cricketers beat Master Blazers in the former by six runs.

Batting first, Elite scored 86 runs in 12 overs, with Debojyoti Bhattacharjee top-scoring with 38, while Biswajeet Dasgupta made 27.

Dr Manish Kapoor and S Rai took a wicket each.

In reply, the Master Blazers fells short by six runs.

Bhattacharjee returned with the ball to claim three wickets, while Ajay Bargotia (24) and Dr Kapoor (17) provided most of the runs for the Blazers.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal was the chief guest for the final.

Awards were as follows: Best Bowler – Dr Manish Kapoor; Best Batsman – Shyamal Dey; Most Disciplined Team – Samrat 8; Man-of-the-Match – Debojyoti Bhattacharjee; Man-of-the-Series – Shyamal Dey.
