TURA, Nov 19: TMC MLA from Dadenggre Rupa M Marak on Wednesday accused Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of deliberately excluding Opposition MLAs from participating in government events on various occasions.
The accusations came in the aftermath of the inauguration of the Jengjal Police Station on Tuesday, to which the local MLA was allegedly not invited.
“I am very, very disappointed at the way I am being treated. Yesterday there was a inaugural program under my constituency at Jengjal where the new Jengjal police Station building was inaugurated. As a local MLA, I should have been invited or informed. But no invitation, no information came from the part of the administration or the government,” Rupa said.
The Opposition MLA claimed that this was not the first time but that he had been sidelined on other occasions as well. “I was also not invited during the foundation Stone laying ceremony for Ringgi Bridge as well. The former MLA of Dadenggre James Sangma was there as Chief Guest, but the local MLA was not there. It also happened during that MOU signing ceremony between AAI and Government of Meghalaya,” he said, and wondered if he was being neglected for raising issues of the constituency.
Rupa also reacted to the Chief Minister’s recent statement where he stated that there was no development in constituencies belonging to Opposition MLAs.
“On one hand he claims that there is no development in these constituencies, while on the other, he doesn’t want to involve them in development programmes. That is not acceptable. I’m very, very disappointed,” he said.
