SHILLONG, Nov 19: Election Commissioner of India Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu on Wednesday visited the Sacred Summit of Lum Sohpetbneng, accompanied by his wife and senior government officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, Abhilash Baranwal, and Chief Electoral Officer Dr BDR Tiwari.
Upon arrival at Lum Sohpetbneng, the Election Commissioner, who is on official visit to the state, was warmly received by representatives of Seng Khasi Kmie— DL Nongbri, vice president, Paia B Synrem, assistant general secretary; along with members of the Jylli Pyrkhat Kam and the Lum Sohpetbneng Committee, Seng Khasi Kmie.
During the visit, he was presented with books depicting the significance and heritage of Lum Sohpetbneng and Khasi way of life.
He also engaged in a brief yet meaningful interaction with the Elders of Seng Khasi, who shared insights on the ideology, cultural importance, and spiritual legacy of Sacred Lum Sohpetbneng.
The Election Commissioner expressed appreciation for the rich traditions and values upheld by the Seng Khasi.
