Storm ravages 33 villages in South West Garo Hills

AMPATI: The cyclonic storm that lashed parts of the Garo Hills region on Sunday night left a trail of destruction and devastation in almost 50 per cent of the villages in South West Garo Hills.
As many as 33 villages in the district were hit hard with 70 houses destroyed in the storm.
Strong winds accompanied by lightning and thundershowers devastated 30 villages under Betasing Block leaving 48 houses fully damaged, while in Zikzak Block, three villages namely, Salmanpara, Boldakgre and Damalgre were severely affected with 22 households completely destroyed.
South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, who visited the affected areas on Tuesday, said preliminary reports have been sent to the government  and necessary relief measures and compensation would be provided to the affected families.
Earlier, the block development officers of the two blocks, Albert G. Momin and Reuben Ch. Momin visited the affected areas in their respective blocks and made spot enquiries to assess the extent of damage to the households.
