SHILLONG, Dec 18: Meghalaya witnessed a significant gathering centred on education, character building and youth empowerment, as a major Islamic conference was held at Jamiul Uloom Rahmania Madrassa in Chibinang under the Phulbari constituency.
The conference drew a large public turnout from across the state, with renowned international motivational speaker Munawar Zama delivering the keynote address. Former Assam Member of Parliament Maulana Badruddin Ajmal attended the programme as the Chief Guest
Ahead of the conference, Munawar Zama was accorded a ceremonial and dignified reception by Rajabala MLA Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi, who honoured him with the National Tricolour. This was the first time the speaker was formally welcomed with the National Flag, a gesture that left him deeply moved
A number of prominent personalities were present to receive him, including Rofiqul Islam Sarker, Principal of Bhaitbari Higher Secondary School; social activist Abdul Kalam Azad; software engineer Sohail Kazi; NGO and social activists Hedayatullah Kazi and Mostopha Kobir, along with several other community leaders and well-wishers.
Prior to the main conference, Zama also participated in a Meet and Greet programme at Bhaitbari Higher Secondary School in Rajabala. The interaction was organised under the leadership of Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi following public demand and requests from local leaders and youth representatives, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from people belonging to various communities.
Addressing students and the public during the programmes, Zama emphasised the importance of education, moral and character development, career planning and proper guidance for youth, underlining their role in nation-building. He stressed that strong values, combined with purposeful education, were essential for individual growth and social harmony.
At the conclusion of his visit, Zama announced that he would return to Meghalaya on January 27 next year to conduct three to four motivational sessions for different communities, a commitment that was warmly welcomed by the audience.
