SHILLONG, Dec 22: With an aim to ease traffic congestion along a busy stretch of road in the city, North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum on Monday inaugurated the beautification project of the Lawmali Pyllun Triangle.
The project, which has been implemented under a state scheme of the Public Works Department (PWD), was initiated in the latter part of 2023 at a cost of over Rs 9 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Nongrum said he was pleased that the project could be inaugurated ahead of the Christmas celebrations, adding that the initiative would not only enhance the area’s appearance but also improve traffic flow.
On the other hand, Lawmali Pyllun Rangbah Shnong, Bhalang Khongwir, noted that they had held detailed deliberations before finalising the design of the beautification project. He expressed confidence that the newly developed triangle would significantly reduce traffic congestion in the area.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by PWD Assistant Executive Engineer Happy Pakyntein, Shillong Recreational Ground Trust secretary-cum-trustee DM Pariat and Assistant General Secretary of Lawmali Pyllun Dorbar Shnong P Nongneng, among others.
