SHILLONG, Jan 27: The four-lane road from Rilbong to Baniun, part of Package 1 of the Shillong-Dawki road project, is expected to be completed by February.
Sources stated that while the scheduled completion is February, the deadline may extend into early March. Earlier hurdles involving Defence authorities and the PHE department regarding pipeline laying have been resolved.
“In some places, we have to do Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) work, and in others, finishing work is being carried out,” sources said. Bituminous Concrete (BC) has been completed in certain stretches, while work continues on the remaining sections.
While Package 1 nears completion, progress on Packages 2 and 4 remains slow. Authorities are now contemplating terminating the contracts for these sections due to the delays.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has issued show-cause notices to the contractors and received their responses.
“We will see what action is required,” sources added.
