SHILLONG: Amid protest from various quarters including the Congress party from West Khasi Hills, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday said the Government was yet to take any decision regarding the setting up of ANVC-B camps either in West Khasi Hills or South West Khasi Hills.
“We are yet to decide on the setting up of a designated camp for the ANVC-B cadres,” Sangma said.
He also said it all depended on the availability of suitable space.
Earlier, the South West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee had opposed the move of the Congress-led government to set up a camp for ANVC-B in the district.
The district Congress which had a meeting on May 21 asked the Government to set up a police outpost in the vulnerable areas which include Maheskhola and Khonjoy to counter the threat from militants.
Scrap ANVC-B camp proposal, HANM tells Govt
The HANM has demanded that the State Government should scrap the proposal of setting up of the designated camp of the ANVC-B in Khasi Hills region.
“We are not convinced with the decision of the Government to temporarily put the proposal on hold. We want the Government to scrap the proposal,” HANM working president Nelson Kharbani said after a meeting of the organisation here on Thursday.
He also lamented that despite sending invites to the various NGOs to be part of the meeting, none of them turned up for the meeting.
