SHILLONG, Feb 17: The Executive Committee (EC) led by the VPP in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has recalled the amendment bills to the United Khasi–Jaintia Hills District (Trading by Non-Tribals) Regulation, 1954, which were earlier passed by the Council and forwarded to the District Council Affairs (DCA) Department for the Governor’s approval.
Informing this on Tuesday, Executive Member in-charge of Development, Powell Sohkhlet said that the recalled amendments would be consolidated into a fresh Bill which is likely to be introduced during the summer session of the Council.
He further stated that the EC is also preparing an amendment to repeal the provision of monthly pensions to former members of the district council (MDCs) by amending the KHAD (Members’ Pension) Act, 2002.
The proposed amendment Bill to repeal the Pension Act will be placed before the House in the three-day budget session which will start from Wednesday.
Replying to a query, the EM cited certain issues that have prevented the EC from presenting the full budget during the budget session.
The Council will instead pass a vote on account to meet expenditure for three months, from April 1 to June 30, which will be presented by Executive Member in-charge Finance, Seiborlang Warbah on the first day of the session.
Sohkhlet indicated that the full budget is likely to be presented during the summer session of the Council, tentatively scheduled for June.
