SHILLONG: The brainchild of Lou Majaw, the Bob Dylan concert has become an annual ritual of sorts for this city of Shillong. From being a small, almost private celebration three decades ago the Bob Dylan concert today attracts audiences from across the country and even from overseas.
The celebration is held every year and this year the event will be held at Cloud 9, Hotel Centre Point, Shillong on May 24 from 8pm onwards. Artists performing from across the country include Lou Majaw & Friends, Arjun Sen, Mathew, Rahul Guha Roy and Jasper Dawson.
The event promises to draw a huge audience from within the city as well as attract a large number of young and old people from all over the North Eastern region, the country and also few from abroad. The event is sponsored by Seagrams and supported by Budweiser.
Dylan has been an influential figure in popular music and culture for five decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s when he was an informal chronicler and a seemingly reluctant figurehead of social unrest. A number of Dylan’s early songs, such as “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “The Times They Are Changin'”, became anthems for the US civil rights and anti-war movements.
