Ampati (SWGH), Feb 23: An RTI reply that was sought by a resident of Ampati, Uttora Sangma, for matters relating to the recent recruitment for Lab Assistants for a secondary school as well the composition and tenure of members of the District Selection Committee (DSC) has left more questions that answered them.
The RTI was filed against the interview conducted for the post of Laboratory Assistant which needs regularization of jobs for the lone Government Higher Secondary School, Ampati. It was filed on Dec 19,2025 and reply for the same was received on Feb 5 2026.
“The reply received duly signed by the Member Secretary, DSC, SWGH, has failed to comply with the office memorandum issued by the government of Meghalaya No. Per. 307 /71/72 dated Dec 7, 1973. It is stated clearly that for the said post, the appointing authority, i. e. the principal of the school should be informed so as to depute any subject expert as the DSC is not the appointing authority. It only has the right to conduct exams for different vacancies, which fall under their purview,” stated Sangma through a memo to the media.
On the question of information on the detailed appointment of the DSC, Vice Chairman, no specific date has been given on the appointment.
“There is also no information provided of the approval from the government of Meghalaya, as the person holding the post, as per record, has been found to have held the post for close to 7 years whereas government rules allow for a maximum of 2 years, as per the Office Memorandum No. PER(AR)167/82/23, dated Jul 3, 1982,” she added.
The rules were issued by the Personnel and Administrative Reforms (B) Department of the Government of Meghalaya, which defines the structure and procedures for District Selection Committees (DSC) regarding the recruitment of staff, etc.
“The appointment of non officials, who have overstayed their appointment duration, clearly point to internal business being carried out by the Government Officers, who turn a blind eye to their appointment, which is not as per the order given by the government of Meghalaya, Personnel and Administrative Department, meant specially for the DSC in every District” she claimed.
The public of the district, she said, had every right to question the wrongdoing of every officer, as every department is accountable to the people of the region.
“The question is, should we protect the genuine right for the benefit of the residents or ignore their mistake. The government should immediately rectify the mistake made or I will file a Writ Petition to find justice. it is clearly written at the bottom line of their advertisement, but somehow the lines have been ignored,” she asserted.
