City event celebrates women entrepreneurs and creatives

SHILLONG, March 7: To mark International Women’s Day, an event titled “Made of Her” was held at ‘BiSCI.io — Your Alt Space’ premises in Laitumkhrah, bringing together entrepreneurs, creatives, and professionals for an afternoon of dialogue and community engagement. Organized by Catapult x Reading Room, the gathering featured exhibitions, speaker sessions, and interactive installations.
The day began with a display of women-led initiatives, including home-based businesses, crafts, and locally produced goods. The exhibition featured photography by Baia Marbaniang and artwork by Megan Gail, alongside stalls from brands such as With Luv Lucy & Natz, Gemz by Psy, Bee Natural, HQI Millets, and Crochet by V.
An interactive installation titled “Letter to My Younger Self” invited attendees to reflect on their personal and professional growth.
The central segment of the programme included moderated discussions with Daphimanroi Warjri, Janessaline Pynrope, Mayfereen Rynthatiang, Pinky Maring, and Rifiness Warjri. The speakers discussed resilience, leadership, and the evolving role of women within their respective fields and communities.
The event concluded with an evening session featuring live music by Rosariia L Kharmih, accompanied by storytelling and poetry. The gathering served as a platform for networking and celebrating the diverse contributions of women across the region.
Three-day women’s fitness prog
A three-day fitness programme aimed at promoting health and empowering women through grassroots sports began here on Friday as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.
The opening session was attended by the Sports Officer of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and officials from the Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association. The initiative focuses on encouraging women’s participation in physical activities and raising awareness regarding health and well-being.
Officials described the first day as productive, highlighting the programme’s role in addressing physical fitness and empowerment issues among women and girls.
