Agartala: The wife of a first class judicial magistrate has approached the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court seeking action against her husband for torturing her for dowry.
In a letter to the Chief Justice, Sampa Paul(36) stated that she had lodged a complaint against husband Pathik Daschaudhuri and the in-laws on May 27 night with the Women Police Station of Kailashahar in North Tripura under section 498(A)/34 of IPC, but till date the police did not arrest them.
“Police is dragging the case by saying that it needs sanction from the appropriate court before proceeding further against any judicial officer and by that time the accused are trying to get anticipatory bail from the court to evade arrest,” Sampa said in her letter.
Police said Pathik and his father Sandip Daschaudhuri, former Deputy Registrar of the high court, were absconding for the past five days. However, the investigating police officer sought permission from the Registrar General of the High Court to take action against them.
Investigating officer Dipanjana Sinha stated that besides, detailed medical test of the victim, they have recorded the statement of Sampa’s seven-year-old daughter and prima facie it established the allegation. But unless they got sanction, police could not proceed further.
The victim’s family has already received several threat calls demanding withdrawal of the case against the magistrate failing which they were threatened with dire consequences.
Sampa, daughter of retired teacher Pradyut Paul of Kailashahar, had alleged that she had been suffering torture at the hands of her husband and in-laws for the past seven years for getting a car from her father. (UNI)
