SHILLONG: The ANVC-B on Wednesday expressed concern over the deteriorating situations in Garo Hills.
In a letter to the Home Minister Roshan Warjri, ANVC-B chairman Rimpu Marak said that apart from militancy problem, the recent custodial death of a young boy Balsan S Marak, who was only 18 years has put light on the atrocities of police.
“Militancy problem has risen considerably in Garo Hills because situations such as these have wounded the youths deeply and the atrocities and injustice of the mechanism of the Government which was duty bound to protect the civilians have unfortunately evolved into draconian system of corruption,” he said.
According to Marak, opposing their camps in Garo dominated areas of Khasi Hills will only crop up communal differences. “Garos and Khasis are equal and there should not be any differences or intolerance between the two tribes,” he added.
