NONGPOH, April 20: The Ri-Bhoi unit of the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, seeking immediate state government intervention regarding ongoing hardships faced by residents along the Ri Bhoi–Assam border.
A delegation led by HANM vice president Sumar Lyngdoh and general secretary Reynold Dkhar met Additional Deputy Commissioner Balakyntiew Rani to highlight local grievances. The organisation proposed a coordinated meeting involving traditional heads of various Himas, Raids, and villages to identify and address the root causes of border instability.
The memorandum specifically cited recurring harassment of local residents by Assam Forest and Police personnel. HANM urged the state government to expedite the resolution of the inter-state boundary dispute and called for a permanent security presence in border villages to ensure safety and prevent future conflict.
