SHILLONG, April 24: Two scooties stolen in separate incidents on Thursday were traced and recovered from Pdengshakap village after West Jaintia Hills Police launched a probe triggered by a theft complaint from Ialong Civil Hospital.
Addl. SP (DSB) Crescency W Lyngdoh stated on Friday that police first received information from Ummulong resident Wanphida O. Laloo, who reported that his scooty (ML-05 W-6877) had been stolen from the hospital premises in Jowai.
Investigators turned to CCTV footage, which helped them zero in on a suspicious vehicle.
This led to intensified patrolling, which culminated in the interception of the vehicle. Five occupants were picked up and taken to the Phramer Traffic Cell for questioning, with four among them identified as minors.
During questioning, one child in conflict with the law indicated that the stolen scooty had been moved to Pdengshakap village. A police team subsequently reached the location and recovered the vehicle after completing the due legal procedures.
On the same day, another complaint was filed by Bastanroy Mawthoh of Nongmensong, Langkyrding, stating that his Yamaha Ray ZR (ML-05 AF-5040), matte black with golden rims, had been stolen around 2:30 am. Police said this vehicle was also traced to the same village and recovered.
Both scooties are now kept at the Phramer Traffic Cell as further legal steps are initiated, the statement added.
