A construction worker died while assembling the stage for Shakira’s upcoming Brazil concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, organizers confirmed.
The incident occurred on April 26 during preparations for the Todo Mundo No Rio event, part of Shakira’s 2025 global tour.
According to officials, emergency services were called immediately after the accident, and the worker was given first aid before being taken to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, where his death was confirmed.
The state fire brigade said the worker suffered severe crushing injuries while using a lifting system and was removed from the equipment by colleagues before rescue teams arrived.
Organizers expressed condolences and said they are providing support to the victim’s family and the contractor involved.
The incident has cast a shadow over preparations for the high-profile concert, which was confirmed by Rio’s mayor as a major public event on Copacabana Beach. (IANS)
