SHILLONG, April 29: The Shillong-Dawki road was closed on Wednesday morning after a fresh landslide at Pomlom, along the Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem stretch, disrupted traffic on the vital route.
The closure comes just a day after the road had been reopened following a week-long shutdown triggered by a fatal landslide at Mawlieh, which claimed two lives.
The latest landslip at Pomlom brought down large boulders and debris, rendering the stretch unsafe for commuters, transporters, and tourists. In a public notice, the PRO of Ace Construction announced the temporary closure in the interest of safety and urged the public to avoid the route until further notice.
Officials have advised commuters to use alternative routes while restoration work is underway. The recurring incidents have heightened concerns over vulnerable stretches like Mawlieh and Pomlom, where persistent rainfall and unstable soil frequently cause slope failures.
