SHILLONG, May 2: The closing ceremony of the fourth season of the annual Women-on-Wheels (WoW) Car Drive and NEW Bike Expedition was held at Lok Bhavan on Saturday, marking the end of a multi-state tour across the Northeast.
The expedition, which was flagged off on April 25, included 25 participants from across the country. During the tour, the group engaged with local communities, students, and women’s groups to learn about the region’s cultural traditions and sustainable practices.
Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, CH Vijayashankar, attended the event and highlighted the initiative’s role in promoting the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ campaign, road safety, and clean energy. He noted that such efforts align with the Prime Minister’s vision for inclusive growth and regional development.
Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women, Iamonlang M Syiem, spoke on the region’s unique identity and the expanding opportunities in tourism and entrepreneurship for youth and women.
Organised by the Amazing Namaste Foundation under the patronage of the National Commission for Women, the expedition was supported by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and various state governments.
