A three-day long tribute programme to commemorate the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore will be held from Thursday at Brookside Complex, Rilbong, and Rilbong Sports and Cultural Club hall. The programme will be organised by Rilbong Sports & Cultural Club in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, and ICCR Shillong. On Day 1 (May 7), school-level painting competition will be held from 11 am to 1 pm at Rabindranath Tagore Art Gallery, Brookside, Rilbong. On Day 2 (May 8), a multi-lingual cultural programme will be held. South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai will be the chief guest of the cultural programme and Principal Secretary, Arts & Culture, FR Kharkongor, and Regional Director, ICCR Shillong, N Munish Singh, will be the guests of honour. On the final day (May 9), floral tributes will be paid at the statue of Rabindranath Tagore at 8.30 am, which will be followed by a small cultural programme.
Condolence
The Shillong Socio-Cultural Assamese Students’ Association (SSASA) has condoled the demise of Dr Bijoy Krishna Deva Sarma, a renowned science writer, distinguished educator, and an ardent populariser of scientific literature in Assam. It recalled Sarma, a close affiliate of SSASA, as not only an academician of great repute but also a guiding force for the Assamese community in Shillong.
Award
The government has invited nominations for 2026 Jeevan Raksha Padak series of award, given to a rescuer for saving someone’s life. The awards are given in three categories viz., Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak, and Jeevan Raksha Padak. Nominations have to be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills on or before June 3. Detailed information is available at http://eastkhasihills.gov.in.
