886 athletes compete in EKH athletics meet at SAI STC Shillong

Shillong, May 8: The East Khasi Hills District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet 2026 got underway on Wednesday at the SAI STC Shillong campus in NEHU, Mawlai Mawkynroh, bringing together hundreds of young athletes from across the district for a three-day sporting extravaganza.
Organised by the Office of the District Sports Officer, East Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the East Khasi Hills District Athletics Association, the meet has attracted 886 athletes from 53 schools competing in Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 categories for both boys and girls.
According to the organisers, the Under-14 category features 203 athletes, including 107 boys and 96 girls, while the Under-16 section has 331 participants comprising 201 boys and 130 girls. In the Under-18 division, 352 athletes are taking part, including 195 boys and 157 girls.Among the participating institutions, St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School has fielded the largest contingent with 50 athletes, followed by H Elias Higher Secondary School with 48 participants and Sacred Heart Boys Higher Secondary School with 44 athletes.The opening ceremony featured the National Anthem, felicitation of the chief guest, hoisting of the flag, march-past by participating schools and the athletes’ oath-taking ceremony.
Events during the meet began daily from 8:30 AM, while the closing ceremony and prize distribution are concluded on Friday.
The technical conduct of the competition is being coordinated by Kyrshan Marbaniang, Physical Training Instructor under the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
