Two-wheeler theft cases surge in Upper Mawprem
SHILLONG, May 8: A series of two-wheeler theft cases in Upper Mawprem and surrounding localities has triggered widespread concern, with residents demanding immediate police intervention to strengthen security. According to locals, at least three motorcycles and one scooty have been stolen in recent months. Two of these thefts reportedly occurred in Centre Mawprem within the last fortnight, including an incident near Hari Har Dairy last week. The thefts have been concentrated along the Presbyterian Church road stretch leading from Lower Mawprem toward Upper Mawprem, as well as in Nongsohphoh and Barapathar. The locals noted that these densely populated areas, which feature busy markets and residential clusters, are particularly vulnerable at night when surveillance is minimal. In this regard, they have urged the police to intensify night patrolling and increase surveillance in vulnerable pockets. They also called for the installation of CCTV cameras at strategic locations and improved street lighting to deter thieves.
