SHILLONG, May 19: A 26-year-old man was arrested and a stolen motorcycle recovered on Tuesday evening following a police pursuit near Mawjrong.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated that personnel from the Sohra Police Station were conducting routine vehicle checks when a motorcyclist spotted the team, turned around, and fled toward Shillong. Police pursued the rider and, with help from local residents at Mawjrong, intercepted him.
The motorcycle, a red Yamaha R15 (ML 05R 5346), had been stolen from Laban earlier that evening around 7 pm.
The accused has been identified as Banpliebok Khongsder of Pomshutia, Pynursla. Preliminary investigations suggest he was heading toward the Bangladesh border when he was intercepted. A case has been registered, and police are investigating his potential involvement in other motorcycle thefts in the city.
