‘Bohagi Bidai’ celebration in city on June 7

SHILLONG, May 23: The Deep Jyoti Socio-Environmental Society will host its annual Bohagi Bidai celebration on June 7 at the Deba Kumar Das Memorial Hall, starting at 5 pm.
Bohagi Bidai, also known as Sera Bihu or Phato Bihu, marks the conclusion of the Rongali Bihu festival and the farewell to the month of Bohag. The event aims to preserve Assamese cultural traditions and promote community interaction.
According to a statement here, a series of preliminary events have been scheduled ahead of the main celebration.
On May 31, drawing, essay and slogan writing competitions will be held at Shishumandir from 9:30 am. A tree plantation and cleaning drive will take place at the Deba Kumar Das Memorial Hall on June 5 at 8 am, followed by an open dance competition at the same venue on June 6, with registration opening at 9:30 am.
The main programme on June 7 will commence with a flag hoisting ceremony at 10:30 am. The evening session will include a prize distribution ceremony at 5 pm and cultural performances from 6 pm onwards.
Meanwhile, the organisers have invited the public to attend the festivities and celebrate the cultural heritage.
