TURA, May 23: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers Association (AGHSSASTA-CB) on Saturday held a felicitation programme at the Matchakolgre LP School Playground to honour Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for his commitment to the education sector and for addressing the concerns of SSA teachers.
During the event, the Chief Minister launched several initiatives to modernise educational administration, including the MBOSE E-Office Management System and a digital accounting dashboard designed to enhance financial transparency and institutional accountability.
A major highlight was the launch of the Chief Minister’s Leadership in Education and Development (CM LEAD) Fellowship. This initiative seeks to engage young professionals to support innovation and coordination across nearly 8,000 government and aided schools in the state’s 12 districts.
The Chief Minister also flagged off 27 vehicles to improve field-level monitoring and mobility for education officials, particularly in remote areas.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma reaffirmed that education remains a top priority for his government. He acknowledged the long-standing challenges faced by SSA teachers, stating that the government is working on reforms regarding salary, dignity, and job security.
“Many times, the hard work of officials and teachers goes unrecognised despite the immense responsibilities they shoulder,” he said.
The Chief Minister credited government interventions, such as the CM IMPACT guidebooks, for the improved SSLC examination results. However, he emphasised that the focus must shift from mere pass percentages to conceptual learning and real understanding.
“Real improvement in education quality must happen at the micro level — at the level of every individual student,” he remarked, urging regular school inspections to identify infrastructure and teaching gaps.
Commissioner and Secretary of Education, Vijay Kumar Mantri, highlighted ongoing reforms in governance and technology-driven administration. AGHSSASTA-CB President Labingstone G Momin expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for prioritising teacher welfare.
The programme included cultural presentations, including Wangala dance performances by SSA teachers from Ampati, and was attended by education officials and community leaders from across the Garo Hills.
