TURA, May 28: A resident of West Garo Hills has filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner alleging large-scale irregularities in the issuance of MGNREGA job cards under the Patharkata Village Employment Council (VEC) in Demdema Block.
In his complaint, Shahidur Islam revealed that while East Patharkata VEC has only 600 registered voters, there are 1,332 job card holders listed under the scheme. Islam alleged that many of these cards are held by “ghost” beneficiaries, including minors and non-residents suspected to be from neighbouring Assam.
Islam submitted a list of names and serial numbers of the disputed cardholders to the authorities, asserting that these individuals do not reside within the VEC’s jurisdiction.
Islam has sought an independent inquiry and a physical verification of all cardholders. He further demanded a social audit, the cancellation of illegal job cards, and the immediate suspension of all MGNREGA payments to the VEC pending investigation.
